The Kaleidescape Remote is an excellent source for many such commands. This results in a good general-purpose remote, but one that lacks Kaleidescape specific commands.Ī remote control already set up with Kaleidescape specific commands can be used as a source remote to learn those commands. Programming the remote as if it were controlling a Toshiba DVD player allows the remote to control a Kaleidescape movie zone. The Kaleidescape code set is an extension to the Toshiba code set. Kaleidescape IR codes can also be loaded from device files provided for some of the more popular remote controls below, or from CCF files such as the Philips IR library, which can be opened in the Universal Browser. Kaleidescape is listed in this library under AUX. This library contains several one-button Kaleidescape commands, such as single-touch access to the Movie List view, favorite scene controls, intermission, etc. Home Theater Master and Complete Control series remotes that are PC programmable can use the IR device library from URC.
Using the Onscreen Display Control Interface or the Standalone Music Control Interface allows users to control their systems for movies and music in zones both with and without a display device. The IR database window can be docked on the side along with the properties bar, while the browser must remain separate.The software application for the URC MX-6000 provides full control and two-way feedback for a Kaleidescape player.
A couple of other floating windows are also available, one for navigating the preprogrammed code database and a second “Universal Browser” for searching through imported files for device functions. The properties bar can be “undocked” if desired so that it free-floats over the program as a resizable movable window. On the right side of the screen is a “docked” properties bar which provides quick access to command learning and macro recording facilities. In the center of the screen over a dark grey background is a graphical simulation of the physical remote, previewing how the various screens will look and indicating which buttons hold what type of commands. Just under each of these headers are a few pages not further categorized with a device name: these represent the main menu screens that will list devices and activities. On the left side is a standard tree view of all devices and pages contained in the open configuration, categorized under “Watch” and “Listen” headers.
